Before the website launch, Las Oncas’ main communication channel was Instagram, which made it difficult to present the full scope of its mission, initiatives, and long-term vision. The challenge was to centralize a large amount of information into a single, clear, and visually engaging platform while enabling online donations and recurring sponsorships.
By designing and developing a structured, data-driven website, I provided Las Oncas with a powerful tool to explain its work, showcase measurable results, and generate financial support independently. Since the launch of the website, more than 27,000 USD have been raised directly online within the first two years, through both subscriptions and one-time donations.
The result is a scalable digital platform that supports conservation efforts while strengthening transparency, engagement, and long-term funding.
Las Oncas is a natural reserve based in Costa Rica dedicated to the monitoring and protection of jaguars. The project aimed to create a website capable of clearly explaining the foundation’s mission while supporting conservation efforts through online donations, sponsorship programs, and data visualization.
I designed the interface in Figma and developed the platform in Webflow, building a robust ecosystem connected to Airtable, Mailchimp, and Zapier.
The visual direction was inspired directly by the jungle and the jaguar’s universe. Green tones were used extensively to reflect vegetation and rainforest environments, while black and gold accents were introduced to evoke the jaguar itself and reinforce a sense of rarity and value.
Graphic patterns inspired by jaguar coats and topographic maps were integrated throughout the site to recall exploration, scientific expeditions, and wildlife tracking. The objective was to create an immersive experience that connects visitors emotionally to the fieldwork conducted by Las Oncas.
The website’s primary role is to explain Las Oncas’ actions, including wildlife monitoring, scientific research projects, and land acquisition for conservation purposes. It also serves as a central hub to showcase results, such as the number of jaguars detected, interactive maps, and individual jaguar profiles containing all available data.
Beyond storytelling, the platform enables users to financially support the Las Oncas foundation through several programs. Visitors can sponsor camera traps placed in the jungle or adopt a jaguar and receive notifications when their sponsored animal is detected. Supporters gain access to a private online space where they can view videos and data related to their sponsored camera or jaguar.
The project relies heavily on Airtable as a central data source. All wildlife data, jaguar profiles, and detection information are synchronized with the website, requiring deep Airtable integration. Webflow was connected to Mailchimp to manage contacts, sponsors, and newsletter subscriptions, with Zapier used to automate workflows between platforms.
This setup allowed Las Oncas to manage complex datasets while keeping the website dynamic, scalable, and easy to update.
